How to Handle Other Causes of Roof Leaks


Roof leaks cause many problems in your home. Aside from electrical problems and damage to your electronics and belongings, this is the main cause of the deterioration of the internal structure of the house. There are different types of roofs and many checks can be done to help you identify the causes of the leaks. Shingles can be checked for damage and repaired.

You can check the integrity of the shingles, you can heat them and reshape corrugated ones, or can replace them altogether. Once the panels are restored you can reattach them with the correct roofing cement. You can cut up the roofing felt and use a mop and rag to drain all the water. When the felt and the rest of the roof are dry, clean the area and start with a clean roof. You can then apply roofing putty to the place where you cut off the roofing felt and firmly attach the roofing felt again. Nail the crack to both tabs and reapply roofing cement to the nails and felt to ensure it is waterproof again.

You can fix this problem by replacing the valley with thin sheet metal or patching small holes in the valley with the same material as the original roof valley. Cut the sheet metal larger than the hole, apply roofing putty over the hole, and bend the formed sheet metal accordingly before reinstalling firmly.
