Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba-Mugen Train Arc Episode 7

Today, we are going to discuss Demon Slayer Episode 7: Kimetsu no Yaiba-Mugen Train Arc. For me, this is an emotional episode. After seeing the movie, I knew what was going to happen. But, he still felt the same emotions. This episode also marks the end of our journey on the Mugen train. But, it ends in a dramatic and devastating way. Let's get into it. Big spoilers, guys. Akaza vs. Rengoku

In episode 6, we see a fierce battle between the top tier demon Akaza and Flame Hashira Rengoku. Akaza has the upper hand, but Rengoku is giving him a chance for his money. Akaza does not want to kill Rengoku, but to turn him into a demon. But, Rengoku is a stand up guy and he doesn't take the bait.

Suddenly, Akaza notices the sun peeking over the horizon. But, Rengoku has a hold on Akaza that he cannot break. To make matters worse, Rengoku is slowly slashing at Akaza's neck. The danger increases when Tanjiro and Inosuke decide to finish the job. So, we have Dawn, Flame Hashira, and two young demon hunters, all looking to end Akaza's life. In a moment of sheer desperation (and a bit of awesomeness), Akaza tears off his arms to escape certain death.

This is what I expect from Demon Slayer villains. The villains have a commanding presence. They are fierce, skilled and terrifying. Enmu did not embody these qualities, not to me anyway.

Saying goodbye

When it comes to emotional moments in anime, I've been known to shed a tear or two. But, there are very few moments that make me cry. A couple of moments I can think of are Kuro-sensei's death in Assassination Classroom, and when Gon and Killua split up in Hunter x Hunter. Well, you can add Rengoku's name to the list of anime characters that made me cry ugly.

Although Rengoku nearly kills Akaza, he himself will not survive the battle. As Tanjiro watches Rengoku die, he yells at a fleeing Akaza, crying, feeling shame at his own weakness. The pain is palpable. In his last moments of life, Rengoku tells Tanjiro to visit Rengoku's house. He also tells Tanjiro that he accepts Nezuko into the Demon Slayer Corp. At this point, hot tears roll down my face. Rengoku then sees his mother. His mother nods in approval of Rengoku's selfless work.

Then you see a raven flying away with tears in its eyes (wow, I'm about to cry right now just thinking about it). Spread the word to the other demon hunters. Everyone feels mixed emotions of anger and sadness.

Saying goodbye to Rengoku is sad. But it will probably motivate Tanjiro, Insouke, and Zenitsu to work harder and become more powerful. They know that the forces they face are formidable and they need to be prepared. I'm going to miss Rengoku's humanity, positive attitude, and fierce power in battle. But I know his death will propel the young protégés of him to a whole new level.
